These vacancies are spread across different Central Government departments and organisations. The final post-wise and category-wise vacancy details will be published separately by SSC.
One important point for candidates: SSC does not collect State-wise or Zone-wise vacancy details. Therefore, candidates should not rely on unofficial websites for a State-wise vacancy breakup unless it is officially released by the concerned department.
Which Posts Are Available?
The recruitment includes posts such as:
- Junior Engineer (Civil)
- Junior Engineer (Electrical)
- Junior Engineer (Mechanical)
- Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical)

Important: Some posts require work experience. If experience is prescribed, it must have been obtained after acquiring the required educational qualification. Internship, training or research undertaken while studying will not count as the required experience.
SSC JE 2026 Age Limit
The crucial date for calculating age is 01 August 2026.

02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008
For posts having an upper age limit of 32 years, the candidate should have been born between:

Remember: Your Date of Birth should match the date recorded in your Matriculation/Secondary certificate. A mismatch can lead to rejection.
BRO JE Has a Special Requirement
Candidates applying for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) should be particularly careful.
- Only male candidates are eligible for BRO JE posts.
- BRO has separate Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and physical/medical standards.
- Candidates should check these requirements before giving BRO a preference.
- If a candidate is allocated a BRO post but later fails the required physical or medical standards, SSC may cancel the candidature.
- SSC will not necessarily shift such candidates to another preferred post.
So, don't put BRO in your preference just because the post looks attractive. Check whether you can actually meet its physical and medical requirements.
SSC JE 2026 Application Form
Candidates have to complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website before filling out the application.
Important point about OTR
If you created an OTR on the old SSC website (ssc.nic.in), it will not work on the new website.
Candidates need to complete OTR on ssc.gov.in. Applications can be submitted through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application.
Application Fee
- General candidates: ₹100
- Women: No fee
- SC/ST: No fee
- PwBD: No fee
- Ex-Servicemen: No fee
The fee must be paid online.
Photograph and Signature Requirements
SSC will capture a live photograph during the application process.
Candidates should:
- Sit/stand in front of the camera.
- Use good lighting.
- Keep a plain background.
- Look directly at the camera.
- Keep the complete face visible.
- Do not wear a cap or spectacles while taking the photograph.
Candidates must also upload their signature in JPEG/JPG format of 10–20 KB, with dimensions of about 6 cm × 2 cm.
SSC has also advised candidates to use Aadhaar-Based Authentication.
Application Correction Window
If you make a mistake while submitting the application, SSC will provide a correction window from:
28 September 2026 to 30 September 2026, up to 11:00 PM.
Correction charges are:
- First correction: ₹200
- Second correction: ₹500
A candidate can submit the corrected application two times during the correction window. After the window closes, no further correction will be allowed.
Best advice: Don't depend on the correction window. Fill the application carefully the first time.
SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern
SSC JE will be conducted through two Computer-Based Papers.
Paper-I
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 50 | 50 |
| General Awareness | 50 | 50 |
| General Engineering | 100 | 100 |
| Total | 200 | 200 |
Duration: 2 hours
Candidates eligible for a scribe will get 2 hours 40 minutes.
Paper-II
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Engineering / Relevant Subject | 100 | 300 |
Duration: 2 hours For eligible scribe candidates: 2 hours 40 minutes.
Negative Marking
This is something every SSC JE aspirant should remember:
- Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer.
- Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer.
Both papers contain objective-type multiple-choice questions in Hindi and English.
Which Subject Will You Study?
Your engineering/subject paper depends on your post:
- JE Civil: Civil & Structural Engineering
- JE Electrical: Electrical Engineering
- JE Mechanical: Mechanical Engineering
- Scientific Assistant, IMD: Computer Science & IT / Electronics & Telecommunication / Physics
- JE Telecom: Telecommunications
The subject/stream selected in the application cannot be changed later, so candidates must choose it carefully according to their educational qualification.
Paper-I Is Qualifying, Paper-II Decides Merit
This is one of the most important things to understand.
Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates who meet the required qualifying standard and are shortlisted will appear for Paper-II.
For final selection, normalized Paper-II marks are used along with the candidate's post/organisation preferences.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
- UR: 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- Other categories: 20%
So don't make the mistake of thinking that simply passing Paper-I guarantees selection. Paper-II is extremely important for final merit.
Multiple Post Eligibility
Some candidates may be eligible for more than one post depending on their qualification.
For example:
- Mechanical candidates may also be eligible for JE Electrical & Mechanical.
- Electrical candidates may also be eligible for JE Telecom and JE Electrical & Mechanical.
- Telecom candidates may also be eligible for Scientific Assistant in IMD or JE Electrical, if they fulfil the required qualifications.
- Scientific Assistant candidates may also be eligible for JE Telecom if they meet its qualification requirements.
However, candidates must appear in the relevant examination subject according to the post and subject selected in the application.
SSC JE 2026 - What Should You Do Now?
If you are eligible, don't wait for the last date.
A simple approach would be:
- Complete your OTR on ssc.gov.in.
- Check your educational qualification carefully.
- Check your age as on 01 August 2026.
- Decide your eligible post/engineering subject.
- Fill the application form carefully.
- Check every detail before final submission.
- Pay the fee, if applicable.
- Save/print the submitted application.
- Start preparing for Paper-I and Paper-II together.
SSC itself advises candidates not to wait until the last day because heavy website traffic can cause problems while submitting the application.
Final Words for SSC JE Aspirants
SSC JE is not just another recruitment form. For engineering students and diploma holders, it can be a direct opportunity to enter Central Government technical services.
The good thing is that you already know the timeline. Paper-I is expected in October/November and Paper-II in December 2026, so there is no reason to postpone preparation.
If you're eligible, fill the form first and then focus completely on preparation. Don't lose the opportunity because of a small application mistake or because you waited until the final day.
Apply carefully. Prepare consistently. Let your Paper-II score do the talking.
